Power with dynamics; instrumental virtuosity with soulful vocals; roots music and original acoustic funk: Harkness, Haynes & Wilson.

When singer-songwriter-guitarist Chip Wilson was blown out of his home in New Orleans, the first thing he did was record a CD, Gloryland, with percussionist Jeff Haynes.  Soon, he introduced Jeff to his old playing partner, multi-instrumentalist Sean Harkness, and the three musicians found a sound and a feel both extraordinary and accessible.

Sean Harkness, Windham Hill artist, has found audiences from Tokyo to Broadway, and toured with artists like Tuck & Patti, Bobby Sherman, Mickey Howard and others.  Sean and Chip Wilson worked together over a decade ago in Vermont, where Sean brought his fretless bass to several songs on Chip’s recording Map Of The World.  Pursuing his solo instrumental career, Sean has placed songs on 16 Windham Hill compilations, as well as his own recordings Aloft, Trio of One and Urakaji.

Jeff Haynes has performed and recorded with artists including Cassandra Wilson, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny and Lizz Wright: a who’s who of modern crossover jazz and R&B.  Hand drums, shakers, and all manner of percussion instruments combine with an electric stage presence.  Haynes is featured on Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues documentary, Pat Metheny’s live DVD Imaginary Day, and recordings such as Cassandra Wilson’s Belly of the Sun and Lizz Wright’s Salt.

Chip Wilson is a guitarists’ guitarist: his orchestral style features funky percussion, single note and chordal power.  With a rich singing voice tempered by hundreds of gigs per year in the musically rich French Quarter of New Orleans, Chip’s recording A Jumpin’ Somethin’ earned and Offbeat Award nomination.  Following with Mostly Blue, Map of the World, and post-hurricane recording Gloryland, Chip has united with Harkness, Haynes and Wilson to produce some of the most exciting music of his thirty-five year career.
